Construction complete –The Hampshire, Sunshine
Australian Unity has announced the completion of construction at The Hampshire, a residential, retail and office development in Sunshine in Melbourne’s west, part-funded by investors in Australian Unity’s Select Income Fund (AUSIF).
The development is a five-level mixed-use complex consisting of 46 apartments, 565 sqm of retail space and 2,130 sqm of commercial space.
It is centrally located in Sunshine’s recently developed central business and shopping district, and offers hotel-quality apartment residences, together with retail and office space, in an elegant setting.
Of the 46 residential apartments, 17 apartments are allocated for specialist disability accommodation and have been purchased by a specialist disability fund. The other 29 apartments have been acquired for affordable housing by two separate affordable housing providers, Uniting Church and Homes Victoria.
The office space has been leased by the Victorian State Government and the six retail spaces on the ground floor are currently being advertised to be let.
Esther Kerr, Chief Executive Officer, Wealth & Capital Markets, Australian Unity, said, The Hampshire reflects Australian Unity’s commitment to providing critical social infrastructure such as specialist disability accommodation and affordable housing.
“We know the demographics of Melbourne’s west calls for increased investment in vital health and social services. This important social infrastructure and the services that it will provide are critical to the wellbeing of the local community”, she said.
Roy Prasad, General Manager, Mortgages, Australian Unity, said The Hampshire expands Australian Unity’s existing footprint in Melbourne’s west growth corridor which includes the recently opened $140 million Sunshine Private Hospital.
“This mixed-use facility is another demonstration of how investors continue to benefit from Australian Unity’s approach to identifying development opportunities to meet the needs of communities in key growth corridors”
The development was completed by a joint venture arrangement between Angelo Property Group, Rathstation Group and a private landowner. Hamilton and Marino built the facility and Fusion Project Management were the project managers. The Hampshire was completed on time and on budget.
