What is trust administration?

A trust is a legal agreement between one person and another trusted person (or company) to hold assets, real estate and other investments for someone else.

A trustee manages the trust and is the legal owner of the assets within the trust. This provides a level of protection against personal liability if structured appropriately and may also enable the trust finances to be managed tax effectively.

A trustee’s responsibilities include:

registration of the trust with its own tax file number and Australian business number
managing the trust’s affairs including establishment of trust deeds based on state or territory laws and payment of relevant stamp duties
establishment and management of bank accounts and assets contained within the trust
lodging tax returns and paying any tax liabilities
managing employer obligations if the trust has employees

What trusts can be established?

Australian Unity Trustees is a licenced professional trustee company with an Australian Financial Services Licence and regulated by ASIC’. We can assist you in determining which is the most appropriate trust structure for your circumstances.

We can assist in the establishment, administration and management of a trust. You may wish to establish a trust during your lifetime or create one in your will. A trust can assist you to protect your assets and wishes for the future.

Additionally, you can nominate us as the trustee when you establish your trust, or at any later time, if you require assistance or want to pass over the administration of the trust to us.
