Setting up a Delegated Authority
We take your privacy seriously, which is why Australian Unity has strict security measures in place to protect your personal information. That means we will deal ONLY with you, as the policy holder, or your partner on the policy (unless you tell us otherwise) in all matters related to your Private Health Insurance membership.
Partner Delegated Authority
Unless you tell us otherwise, a partner or spouse included on your policy, will have automatic delegated authority on your policy.
Delegated authority gives your partner or spouse the authority to do anything you could do as the policyholder except cancel the policy, change the policyholder, remove the policyholder from the policy or nominate further delegated authorities. This means your partner or spouse will have authorisation to act on your behalf to access and discuss personal information (including claims information) about all members covered under the policy and to make changes to the policy e.g. change the level of the cover or contact details, add or remove a dependant or suspend the policy.
If you have a partner or spouse on your policy and don’t want them to be given delegated authority you can cancel the delegated authority by contacting us on 13 29 39 (8.30am – 8.00pm AEST Mon-Fri).
If you’d like to authorise another person to speak to Australian Unity on your behalf and to help manage your membership, you can set up a Delegated Authority. For example:
You can add an authority for an adult family member or friend to discuss your membership
If you have family members who are looked after by a carer, you can add authority for their carer to speak to us directly
What is covered by a Delegated Authority?
The person you name as a Delegated Authority can make enquiries about, and changes to, most aspects of your membership. They will have the authority to do anything you can do as the policyholder except cancel the policy, change the policyholder, remove the policyholder from the policy or nominate further delegated authorities.
