How to become an ancillary provider
To be recognised as an Ancillary Provider with Australian Unity for the payment of benefits we ask that you and your business satisfy a list of industry and government requirements.
Natural Therapy providers
Australian Unity recognises the following Natural Therapy services:
- Acupuncture
- Swedish massage
- Chinese herbal medicine
- Hypnotherapy
- Myotherapy
- Nutrition
- Remedial massage
- Remedies
Note: The recognition of these services is subject to the level of Extras cover offered by Australian Unity and held by the member. The services listed are subject to change.
Natural Therapy providers must meet the following recognition requirements.

Once you meet our recognition requirements and those of your association they will send us your details, which we will then add to our recognised provider list.
Telehealth: Members can claim for natural therapy services delivered via telehealth, where the product pays benefit for: nutrition. Benefits are the same for this modality whether the consultation is face-to-face or via telehealth, and the same claiming rules apply.
The Australian Government announced that health funds must remove 16 natural therapies from their complying covers by 1st April 2019. Click here for more details.
Allied Health providers
Australian Unity recognises the following Allied Health Provider services:
- Audiology
- Dietetics
- Osteopathy
- Physiotherapy
- Speech therapy
- Chiropractic
- Exercise Physiology
- Occupational Therapy
- Podiatry
- Dental
- Eye therapy
- Optometry
- Psychology
Note: The recognition of these services is subject to the level of Extras cover offered by Australian Unity and held by the member. The services listed are subject to change.
Allied Health providers must meet the following recognition requirements.
You can find your relevant registration board and association here.
Once you meet our recognition requirements and those of your board or association you will need to register for a Medicare provider number. Medicare will then send us your details, which we will then add to our provider list.
Telehealth: Members can claim for allied health services delivered via telehealth, where the product pays benefit for the following: dietetics, psychology, exercise physiology, occupational therapy, speech therapy, physiotherapy. Benefits are the same for these modalities whether the consultation is face-to-face or via telehealth, and the same claiming rules apply.
Other providers
Optical Dispensers
Australian Unity will recognise Optical Dispensers that meet with our recognised provider terms where the following are present:
- An ABN
- A dispensing outlet located and contactable within Australia
- A current Australian Optical Dispensing Certificate
- Current certificates of currency confirming a minimum of $2 million professional indemnity insurance
- Current certificates of currency confirming a minimum of $10 million public liability insurance & product liability insurance

Orthotic Suppliers
Australian Unity will recognise Orthotic Suppliers that meet with our recognised provider terms where the following are present:
- A relevant professional qualification
- An approved orthotic supply course
